I am a solo entrepreneur, just like you! Though my base of experience includes both public and private corporations, local government, non-profit organizations and individuals, I've chosen to specialize in working with solo entrepreneurs because I am passionate about helping others to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

Do you have to have a six-figure income (or a four-figure shopping budget) to work with an image consultant? No - absolutely not...I work with a lot of individuals who would cringe at the idea of spending four or five figures on their wardrobe. You have to balance the need (and the benefits) of projecting a polished and professional image against the potential financial return, and similar to other aspects of entrepreneurship, make the decision to invest on a regular basis for a positive result.

Why should I consult with an image professional? After all, there are a lot of books and information out there! Consulting with a professional gives you access to tools, information and experience you can't get on your own by simply picking up a book or watching a TV show. When you're starting or expanding your business, or going through a personal transition, it pays to get an objective analysis of your current image so that it doesn't become an unconscious liability.

Periodically, you should get an Image update - twice a year is my recommendation - so that you can keep your Image current, and keep it working positively for you. I am rather dramatic and attention-getting in my personal style - that said, I can definately understand why someone might not want to emulate my style when choosing one of their own.

The best possible outcome of working with an image consultant is a look that suits your personality and coloring, your body frame, your lifestyle and your business purpose. I use the 80 / 20 rule when looking at my clients' closets, for instance - they probably wear 20% of their clothing 80% of the time because something in the other clothing isn't quite right: the fit, the color, the fabric, or the way it makes them feel.

As an AICI-certified image consultant, my job is to help my client refine and define their image for the purpose that suits them. That may be maximum visual impact for a public speaker, a polished (and reproducible) business look for that lets your personality and sense of style show through as an solo entrepreneur, or a business-ready adaptation of Business Casual dressing for a more laid-back approach.

It's estimated that most people have 100 garments in their closet (some more, some less). At an average cost of $50 per garment, that means the average individual has a $5,000 investment in their closet. The 80 / 20 rule applied means that you could have up to $4,000 of wasted money tied up in your closet that isn't working for you - and who can afford to waste $4,000?
